Holiday season ended, here we are for another new challenging year !! But before that, let's see how Virtuos x Sparx* achieved in 2017 !
After a record year for the games industry and looking forward to another fantastic year, Sparx* would like to wish you and everyone around you all the best in 2018. With the industry moving at a rapid pace, Virtuos has not been idle and below are a few highlights of what we have been up to in 2017.
The Virtuos family is growing
Aiming to better serve the content needs of its clients worldwide, Virtuos has increased its artists and game developers headcount to over 1,300 worldwide, adding new talent to its studios in Europe, China and Vietnam.
Early this year, Virtuos Notre Dame officially opened. Located on L’ Île de la Cité, an island in the middle of the Seine in Paris, the studio focuses on bringing new revenue to our partners through adaptations and high-quality creations on mobile. It released Spot It! Duel which brings Asmodée’s quick-paced tabletop card game to mobile.
We also added to the family Black Shamrock in Dublin, which continues to operate as an independent work for hire game studio while benefitting from the expanded business development and production resources that Virtuos provides. Black Shamrock focuses on core-gamer strategy and RPG titles on PC and console, and is currently co-developing Werewolf: The Apocalypse with Paris-based Cyanide (creators of Blood Bowl II), as well as an unnamed second project.
Our first released Switch title, and more
In 2017, Virtuos continued to contribute to notable remasters. We are very proud to have partnered with Rockstar Games to bring you the enhanced version of L.A. Noire, re-released with a richer, freshly polished visual experience for the Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
We also had the great opportunity to contribute in the development of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, providing a second life for the Playstation 2 classic on the Playstation 4. Final Fantasy XII: the Zodiac Age is the fourth Square Enix production in which Virtuos has participated, according to Square Enix’s announcement last October, the AAA title has surpassed one million in worldwide shipments and digital sales.
Another big milestone: our 1,000th released project!
Though we can’t mention all the fantastic projects we’ve worked on in 2017— and there are many indeed! — we are very proud to have worked on a variety of critically acclaimed titles, such as the iconic Horizon Zero Dawn, which was our 1,000th project, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Forza Motorsport 7 as well as three of this year’s IGN ''Best of E3 2017''Awards titles.
Our Sparx* studio also produced top quality assets for five blockbuster films this year, including Thor 3: Ragnarok and the long awaited Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jediwhich successful release allows us to end the year on a Bang.To learn more about our contribution to the Star Wars universe watch our GDC 2017 talk here.
2018 promises to be eventful, as Virtuos gears up for another year of growth fueled by new organic and external investments. At the center of our passion has been your constant trust for which we want thank-you profusely! Again, we wish you all the best, and we look forward to making 2018 an excellent year in collaboration with you and your team, everywhere in the world!
